Ramallah, West Bank (AP) The Palestinian president is backing off an earlier threat to boycott peace talks with Israel until there's an Israeli truce with Hamas.
Mahmoud Abbas says the peace process is “a strategic choice” and he intends to resume that process.
Abbas isn't saying precisely when talks will restart. But Secretary of State Condoleezza rice says an american general overseeing implementation of “the road map” peace plan will have his first joint meeting with Israelis and Palestinians next week.
Abbas suspended talks earlier this week to protest Israel's military crackdown in Gaza.
