Appleton Elementary kicks off first day of school

Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- The first day of school has arrived for District 51 students.

Mother of three, Crystal Dickerson, has one daughter entering middle school, one daughter starting 2nd grade at Appleton Elementary School and her son is going into preschool. She said she is looking forward to having some free time and is excited to see her kids grow up.

Appleton Elementary kicked off the year with a new program called Words of Wisdom. Students or staff members will start the day with motivating words to encourage the kids.

Today, Principal Corey Hafey quoted Confucius and said everyone has the choice to make today a good day.
