Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Western Colorado auto dealers are leading by example in an effort to clean Colorado’s air. Recently various dealerships on the Western Slope donated 15 vehicles that where high-polluters.

Those high-polluters will be sold to Colorado auto recyclers who will dismantle them. All the proceeds from the sale will go to helping fund scholarships for future auto-mechanics. The idea is to get these high-polluting vehicles off the road, while helping out students.

"5% of the cars on the road contribute about 50% of the pollutants, so if we can remove those 5 % of those cars that basically gets rid off a big chunk of the pollution," says Bob Fuoco, owner of Fuoco Motors.

Fuoco Motor Company, donated two of the 15 vehicles and owner Bob Fuoco says, he does not intend on stopping there as he plans to make more donations through out the year.
