GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The 69th annual convention of the Western Colorado Horticultural Society, is being held at the Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction.
The convention featured a trade show with new tools, and equipment for farms.
There where also presentations on a number of different topics, one focused on the listeria out break that was traced back to Colorado.
Dr. Bill Bennett of Colorado’s Department of Agriculture talked to those in attendance about what happened at Jensen Farms with the listeria out break.
Bennett says that Jensen Farms where using new equipment that was hard to access and clean.
Bennett does not believe that more government regulations will help prevent future outbreaks, but rather educating both farmers and consumers will led to safer food.
Educating farmers would be done through programs that would help identify risk in the farming industry.
He also points out that farmers here on the western slope are taking the right steps when it comes to food safety.
The convention runs though Thursday the 19th .
