Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- If your child plans on walking to school then it is important to remember safety tips to protect them from stranger danger.

Before you send your child out the door on the first day of school, walk their route with them while pointing out things to avoid and emphasis the importance of staying on the right path straight to school.

Deputy Chad Williams with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office said strangers use candy, toys, money and pets to lure kids in and explaining to them that it is not appropriate to accept anything from people that you do not know, will help them stay safe.

It is also important to reinforce the dangers by having constant conversations with your children.
