Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) --- It's almost time to get the books and backpacks out for school, but first, families took advantage of the last day off.

"It's pretty much your last day of freedom until next summer and spring break," said Sammy Weigart, an upcoming fifth grader. "Well you have to celebrate it!"

Some parents and children spent their mornings at Canyon View Park lounging in the shade, jumping on playgrounds and watching an adult baseball tournament.

"Just trying to sit out and enjoy the sun," said Logan Pinger, an upcoming ninth grader. "Enjoy it while I can."

Other families opted for an indoor activity and played arcade games at Bananas Fun Park.

"Bring them out for the last time because all through the whole year you have to realize that they're going to be in their brains, stuck in the school doing their thing," said Fred Aragon, who was at the arcade with his grandchildren.
