Local charity raises money for African families

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) The organization is called Light
Gives Heat. The non-profit released a collection of goods made in eastern Africa to be sold in their store during the holiday season. Light Gives Heat is based in Grand Junction and was started in 2007. Money is raised through shop sales here in Grand Junction, and provides income for more than 100 mothers living in Uganda.

"We employ a little over 120 people in Uganda, and our main goal is to provide consistent income where there once wasn't any; and we do that through buying these products, and getting to tell their stories through the sale of the products," said Dave Hansow, co-founder of Light Gives Heat.

The special holiday selection of goods includes scarves, earrings, bowls, and holiday decorations. The Light Gives Heat store is located at Weslo Avenue off 25 Road and will have extended hours through the end of December. It's open from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturdays, and 9 to 5 on weekdays.
