Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- The first day of school is coming up and shopping for school supplies to prepare for the big day may be different this year, as prices of these products have increased by an average of 7.3% since 2012.

If the prices are too much for your budget, the community is helping out by putting together events to help students fill their backpacks without breaking the bank.

The Stuff the Bus program at Mesa Mall takes donations of school supplies and then distributes them to schools with the most financial need.

Local store, Learning Works, is also helping by offering discounts to teachers and having a discount and sale section.
