Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- The torch was lit today at Stocker Stadium at the inaugural year of Special Olympics Colorado in Grand Junction.

For the last 10 years the Summer Games were held in Greeley, but after months of planning the committee chose Colorado Mesa University to host the event.

Over 1,000 athletes from all over Colorado came out to participate in this two-day event where they can compete in soccer, power lifting, gymnastics, aquatics and track and field.
