Teachers prepping for back to school

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) --- District 51 schools open their doors on Monday, August 12th and school staff spent the day preparing their classrooms for the first day back.

Tope Elementary School is not just welcoming new students, but also a new teacher and principal.

Kristin Mottram will be teaching third grade at Tope this year and said this is a dream come true for her. She worked for hours today organizing her room and preparing lesson plans.

Carrie Bollinger is the new principal at the school and said that although she knows the position will have its challenges, she is very excited for what's to come.

District 51 hired 163 new teachers for the 2013-2014 school year.
