Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) --- World Breastfeeding Week kicked off today and Colorado Baby partnered with the Mesa County Breastfeeding Task Force to bring awareness to the issue and educate breastfeeding and expectant mothers on the benefits.
Babies who are breastfed have a lower chance at developing infections, asthma and childhood obesity. Mothers also reduce their risk of ovarian and breast cancers by breastfeeding.
Employers can also help mothers by creating a space for them to pump breast milk while at work. Mothers going back to work after maternity leave is one of the biggest reasons why they stop breastfeeding, so designating a pumping room at work can help them continue to feed their infant breast milk.
World Breastfeeding Week wraps up on August 7th
