The high school football season is well underway in the state of Colorado and the Front Range media is taking notice of some of our Back Range schools.

The Denver Post ranks the top ten football teams in each classification every week. The Palisade Bulldogs began the season ranked number one in the 3A poll and are currently ranked third. Also in 3A the Rifle Bears hit the polls ranked seventh.

In 4A the Grand Junction Tigers started the season ranked eighth in the state but quickly fell from the rankings with two losses to open the season. The Montrose Indians are currently ranked eighth in 4A after a 2-0 start, including an upset win on the road over defending state champions Wheat Ridge in week one.

One of the biggest surprises are the Olathe Pirates. Last year was the teams first winning season in a long time and the success is beginning to translate into this season as well. The Pirates won their opening game 53-16 over Rangley and are now ranked 9th in the 2A polls.
