GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The number ones lost out in 5A, 4A, and 3A football last week, shuffling up the rankings into week six quite a bit.

On the bright side two local teams took over in a showing this year that has proved pretty dominant throughout the state.

On the top of the list are the Montrose Indians. They faced the then number-one ranked Monarch Coyotes last Friday night in a duel between the top two 4A teams - both undefeated.

Though Montrose fell behind by a few touchdowns early, they didn't give in, pulling out a 39-34 come-from-behind upset and improving to 6-0. With the win they received a unanimous vote to the top of the rankings while Monarch fell to third.

In 3A Rifle took over the top spot while the Palisade Bulldogs move into the second place opening. Both teams improved to 5-0 over the weekend with the Bulldogs taking in a huge victory over the 4A Durango Demons in what was set to be a big test on how they'd handle the heat pending a move into the SWL next season. Delta dropped out after their loss to Glenwood Springs but they did receive votes.

Plus a couple of big moves in 1A occurred. The Hotchkiss Bulldogs and Cedaredge Bruins battled it out to open up league play last Friday night. Hotchkiss - the underdog through the 2012 season - finally came out on top by a 28-6 margin.

With the win they improved to number three behind Limon and Buena Vista. Cedaredge dropped four spots to number seven, holding a 3-2 record.
