CHSAA reconfigures enrollment numbers for football

AURORA, Colo. (KKCO) – The CHSAA board made a few changes on Thursday, including enrollment numbers which will have a big impact on football. Palisade and Central could be directly affected as both could move to 4A, and Cedaredge could move down to 1A.

The change will take affect in 2012-2013, based on the enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year.

Enrollment Cutoffs (bottom):

Enrollments for Western Slope Schools as of 2009 school year, according to the 2010 CHSAA football bulletin, and their classification for 2010-2011:

Hotchkiss – 270

Cedaredge – 281
Olathe – 357

3A
Delta – 685
Glenwood Springs - 769
Palisade – 1028
Rifle – 615

4A
Montrose – 1319

5A
Central – 1664 (1598 in 2010)
Fruita Monument – 1764
Grand Junction - 1757

Under the new system, Cedaredge would move to 1A, Central would move to 4A (according to their 2010 enrollment), and Palisade would be very close to moving to 4A as well.

According to the Denver Post, 5A would grow from 52 to 55 schools; 4A would grow from 33 to 44 schools; 3A would move down from 51 to 40 schools.
