BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) - Romanian officials say a fourth baby has died following a fire which engulfed a maternity ward at a Bucharest hospital.
Authorities are trying to determine what caused the late Monday blaze at Giulesti Maternity Hospital, which initially killed three infants and left eight premature babies in critical condition.
Health Minister Cseke Attila said Tuesday the accident was one of the “darkest tragedies in the history of Romania's health care system.”
He said 53 babies and 61 women - some in labor - have been evacuated to other hospitals.
