Brazilian man accused of inserting needles in baby

SAO PAULO (AP) - Brazilian police say a man has confessed he inserted two needles and a nail into a baby girl's body because her beauty bothered him.

Police say a 28-year-old handyman told them that his neighbor's 1 1/2-year-old baby was given too much attention because she was pretty.

The mother took the baby to a hospital because she was crying and doctors found the needles and nail. They were successfully removed through surgery.

The man was arrested late Monday after the baby's mother spotted needles and nails in his pocket and advised police. He allegedly confessed when interrogated by authorities.

Rio's civil police said Tuesday the man, whose lawyers could not be immediately contacted, will undergo psychological evaluation.
