Baghdad (AP) The U.S death toll in Iraq has reached a grim milestone.

Military officials say a roadside bomb has killed four U.S. soldiers in Baghdad. The deaths push the overall american death toll in the five-year war to at least 4,000. The count includes eight civilians who worked for the defense department.

Another soldier was wounded in the bombing.

Sunday's attack came on the same day rockets and mortars pounded the U.S.-protected green zone. A U.S. official says an American was one of five people injured.

At least 61 people were killed in attacks across the country on Sunday.
