Update: 16 Killed in Sadr City Combat

Baghdad (AP) Iraqi authorities say at least 16 people have died during fighting in Baghdad's Sadr city.

Police said seven of the victims were killed when projectiles slammed into a house in the sprawling slum. It's a stronghold of the Mahdi army militia of Shiite cleric Muqtada Al-Sadr

Another attack involved mortar fire targeting a residential area.

The U.S. military also reports that a drone launched a missile overnight, killing two gunmen who'd been shooting at government forces.

The capital's U.S.-controlled green zone also came under rocket or mortar fire. The U.S. embassy says there are no reports of casualties.

The violence served as a stark reminder of Iraq's instability five years after U.S. troops swept into Baghdad.

The U.S. military also announced the deaths of two soldiers, one from non-combat-related injuries and the other in a roadside bombing.
