White House (AP) The White House says Syria owes the world an explanation about what it was up to in the Syrian desert.

It says the site Israeli warplanes bombed seven months ago was a nuclear reactor that could have produced plutonium. The administration has supplied photos, an animation and other evidence it says shows North Korea helped build the facility.

A White House statement demands that Damascus “come clean” about the site. And while talks continue on the Korean nuclear program, the statement says what happened in Syria was “potentially destabilizing” and the last thing the Mideast needs.

Lawmakers call the evidence disturbing. But many also are critical of the administration's months-long delay in revealing what it knew.
