Baghdad (AP) President Bush has called Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki to apologize after an american sniper used a copy of the Quran for target practice.

A statement issued by Al-Maliki's office says the Iraqi leader told Bush of the “disappointment and anger” of Iraqis and the government over what he called the soldier's “disgraceful action.”

The statement went on to say that Bush told Al-Maliki the sniper would face trial.

Bush's call late yesterday came after several American commanders in Iraq issued similar apologies. The top commander apologized at a formal ceremony with tribal chiefs over the weekend.

The soldier has been removed from Iraq.
