Beijing (AP) The competition is under way in Beijing to secure coveted tickets to the upcoming Olympic games.

Eager fans have swarmed and scuffled in lines at ticket sales windows to get the final batch of 250,000 tickets for the games.

Two men who waited 28 hours for tickets say they lost their place in line when people showed up late and pushed their way to the front. Instead of tickets to the diving event, they got seats to synchronized swimming.

Chinese state media say 30,000 people lined up for tickets and some became impatient because of the long wait and hot weather. Police limited access to some areas to maintain order. Some journalists were arrested after going into off-limit parts.

All told, 6.8 million tickets have been available for the games.

The olympics start August 8th.
