2 boats capsize off Yemen coast; 80 feared drowned

SANAA, Yemen (AP) - Yemen's interior ministry says two boats carrying more than 80 African migrants have capsized off the Yemeni coast. Most of the passengers are feared drowned.

The ministry said in a statement Monday that one boat carrying 46 passengers, mostly Ethiopians, overturned in the Red Sea. Authorities found the bodies of two Ethiopians, and three Somali survivors on shore. The remaining passengers are missing.

The ministry said another boat carrying 35 to 40 Ethiopians capsized in the Gulf of Aden. None of the passengers have been found.

Yemen's Coast Guard continues to search for any survivors.

Thousands of Africans, mainly from Ethiopia and Somalia, flee to Yemen every year crossing in shabby and overcrowded vessels run by smugglers.
