Manila, Philippines (AP) An airplane was stuck circling a southern Philippine airport today because there were no air traffic controllers around to guide the plane in for a landing.
The airport’s assistant chief air traffic controller says two controllers reported late to work and two others were absent.
He says the two tardy controllers explained they had trouble getting a ride to work because public transportation was scarce on The day after Christmas.
The official says the flight with 153 passengers was a few minutes early on its approach and pilots had to circle while waiting for a response to their calls. He says the plane landed only three minutes late.
But a Philippine newspaper quotes the airline as saying the delay was closer to 30 minutes.
