GENEVA (AP) - An official with the Red Crescent says soldiers loyal to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi have blocked some 30,000 migrant workers from fleeing into Tunisia.
Ibrahim Osman tells the Associated Press the migrants were rounded up and held in Libyan immigration buildings near the border last week. He says many were forced to return to service jobs in the Libyan capital.
Osman says some of the refugees who crossed the border have claimed Gadhafi's soldiers are using ambulances to enter the hospital in Tripoli and take away patients to be executed.
Meanwhile, the U.N. refugee agency is expressing alarm about rising violence by armed Libyans against Sub-Saharan Africans.
Africans in Libya fear attack because of widespread tales about Gadhafi hiring “African” mercenaries to kill for him. Suspected mercenaries have been lynched in some cities.
