British brides fear clash with royal wedding date

LONDON (AP) - The months leading up to a wedding can be a nervous time for any bride-to-be. But those in Britain have a new worry: the possibility that Prince William and Kate Middleton will chose the same date that they've chosen.

While much of Britain is speculating over where and when couple will wed, for those planning weddings the concerns are practical. For example, a royal wedding at Westminster Abbey in central London raises the possibility of blanket security checks, booked hotels and transportation snarls. One woman planning her August nuptials in suburban London says it would be “quite the unfortunate coincidence” if the royal couple gets married when all her guests would be traveling from London's airports.

For other brides, the wedding of Wills and Kate would simply overshadow what they hope will be their day. One woman trying on wedding dresses in London says she's supposed to be “the princess” on her wedding day -- and she doesn't need to compete with a real one.

Still, there could be a perk. When Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1997, they invited 50 couples who had been married on the same day to a special tea at Buckingham Palace.
