BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - Clouds of ash from Chile's erupting volcano are again forcing cancellations of dozens of flights in countries from Brazil to Argentina.

Some flights in Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay also are grounded.

The cloud of ash has drifted across the Pacific Ocean.

Airlines in Australia started flying a backlog of thousands of stranded passengers to and from the city of Melbourne on Monday as ash cleared somewhat after forcing hundreds of cancellations.

Many flights have been canceled in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil and Paraguay due to the drifting cloud of fine grit, which can damage airplane engines.

The Cordon Caulle Volcano began erupting on June 4, and since then about 4,000 Chileans have been evacuated.
