BELLEVILLE, Ontario (AP) - Prosecutors say the Commander of Canada's largest air force base used his authority to learn the schedule and address of a subordinate he raped and murdered.
Col. Russell Williams, who once flew prime ministers and served as a pilot to Queen Elizabeth II during a 2005 visit, pleaded guilty Monday to two first-degree murder charges, two sexual assaults and 82 breaking and entering charges. The 47-year-old faces an automatic sentence of life in prison.
Prosecutors are detailing how Williams raped, photographed, videotaped and killed Marie Comeau, a 37-year-old corporal, at the second day of a sentencing hearing on Tuesday. They say Williams learned Comeau lived alone when she accompanied him on a military flight. He had access to her address.
