JERUSALEM (AP) A senior Israeli Cabinet minister says that Israel will not halt its military offensive in the Gaza Strip until rocket fire is halted.

Israel's minister for public security, Yitzhak Aharonovitch, said in a television interview that the operation "won't end in a day and it won't end in two days. It will take time."

Asked whether any efforts are underway to broker a cease-fire with Hamas militants in Gaza, he said: "Not now."

Shortly before the interview, the military announced it was calling up additional reservists as it prepared for a possible ground invasion of Gaza. Earlier Tuesday, the army was authorized to activate up to 40,000 reserve troops.
