GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A sixth inning grand slam by Miles Hamblin gave Howard the decisive runs in a 12-11 win over San Jacinto at the Junior College World Series on Wednesday night.
San Jacinto made a strong run in the ninth when Jeff Abt hit a two-run home run with nobody out to cut the lead to one. Danny Hernandez kept the game alive by following Abt with a single into left before Howard retired the next three batters to end the game.
Deric Hawkins, Steven Vidaurri, Devin Shines and Ryan Burnaman each homered for the Gators as well. All four of those home runs were solo homers.
Chris Dickersen pitched four stong innings in relief to get the win for Howard. Dickersen had five strikeouts and only one earned run during his appearance.
With the win Howard advances to the semi-finals on Thursday night to play against Western Nevada at 7:30 MDT.
San Jacinto will play in an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 MDT against Santa Fe.
