GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - As 11 News works this month to stop distracted driving, we bring you some defensive driving tips to help keep you safe.
The first and most important tip, give driving your full attention. Don't try to do anything else when you're behind the wheel.
Next, give yourself plenty of time. A lot of accidents happen when drivers are rushing to get places.
Always keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Experts recommend a four second following distance between you and the car in front of you.
Also, never drive in another car's blind spot. If they are driving distracted chances are they're not checking for you.
Lastly, never assume that other drivers will follow the law or are safe drivers. Pay close attention to the big picture and always leave yourself an out in case a defensive maneuver needs to be executed.
