Time to rake the leaves: Residential leaf removal

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Fall is here, and the leaves are starting to change. Soon enough, they are going to fall.

The City of Grand Junction annual leaf program is going to start mid-October.

It allows Grand Junction residents to rake their leaves into the street so the city can come by and collect them. The city wants residents to know that they are just collecting leaves and not trimmings or garden waste.

"Once we get them collected, we start hauling them, and we take them to the compost facility off to the Mesa County landfill, and they go back in to the mulch that’s generated in to the community that customers can put on their garden for next year," said Darren Starr, who is the streets and solid waste manager.

This service starts Oct. 15, and crews start bright and early at 7 a.m. There is also a new hotline for this service: 970-263-931 or 970-256-4111.
