100-acre wildfire north of Rifle

RIFLE, Colo. (KKCO) -- A wildfire burning near Rifle has burned more than 100 acres.

The Rifle Fire Protection District says the fire is burning about three miles north of Rifle and is threatening one structure and one communication tower.

Around 1:30 p.m., CDOT closed down both sides of Highway 13 from mile marker 4 to mile marker 17 because the blaze has reached the road.

At around 4:30 the highway was reopened.

The fire district has four trucks and three water tenders trying to put out the flames, but they need backup. They have requested air resources and additional trucks from nearby fire departments.

Here's to hoping they get a handle on the Fire before it gets too far out of control. And to those fighting it to be SAFE.
