Ballots for a controversial Fruita sales tax proposal will get a recount this morning after a tight vote.
Fruita city officials say Referred Issue A passed by just two votes after last night's municipal election. Referred Issue A would increase the city sales and use tax by one percent That money would go towards funding a new Fruita Rec Center.
Residents were asked to choose a new mayor and Ken Henry defeated opponent David Karisny. Henry received 1,273 votes, and Karisny received 1,119 votes...
Fruita also has three new city council members. Terry moss, Mel Mulder, and Stacey Mascarenas beat out five others to win those seats.
These results are unofficial until the recount is complete and the city certifies the election.
