The Delta County Sheriff visited a Crawford ranch neighbors believe is a polygamist compound. After the tour he says there's nothing that points to criminal activity and there will be no criminal investigation of the property.
Sheriff Fred McKee said Tuesday the owner of the ranch, Neph I. Barlow, said he was an active member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a polygamist sect not associated with the mainstream Mormon church.
McKee says Barlow invited several Delta County Officials to his ranch. Barlow told McKee he is practicing his religion, but nothing illegal. McKee says he was introduced to Barlow's family and it appears only one family is living on the 35-acre ranch.
We tried to contact Barlow but there was no phone listing for that name and according to Delta Couty Records, his mailing address is listed as a P.O. box in Nevada.
Neighbors called the sheriff's office after the FBI raid of an F.L.D.S. compound in Texas because of allegations of child abuse.
