The Grand Junction Fire Department says Saturday’s fire in the Redlands was caused by children and a campfire that got out of control.

The children involved may soon too find out more about the Juvenile Fire Starter Program.

The program helps re-educate children about the dangers of starting fires, as well as the legal repercussions.

The Grand Junction Fire Department also says parents need to take an active role in fire education at home.

Parents should teach their children about the dangers of playing with matches and lighters, especially during times of high fire risk.

The Dewey Bridge fire was also caused by a child playing with matches.

No word yet if the children involved in Saturday’s fire in the Redlands will face any charges.
