A Hotchkiss man is behind bars after authorities say he tried to kill two people over the weekend.

The Delta County Sheriff's Office says it believes 46-year-old Michael Layne followed an ex-girlfriend and another man she was with around Crawford Saturday night, and fired a shot at their car.

Officials say the two were able to get away, but Layne caught up and fired two more shots at them. Neither victim was hurt in the incident.

The two victims were identified as 43-year-old Barbara Trujillo and 27-year-old Luis White.

Layne faces two counts of second degree attempted murder and a slew of other charges as well.
