Denver (AP) Colorado Attorney General John Suthers has reached an agreement with four companies he says failed to keep sediment from running from the Roan Plateau into a creek in Western Colorado.

Suthers had sought a court order to halt construction of a natural gas pipeline until steps were taken to control the runoff. An agreement reached earlier this week allows work to continue if the companies make several changes by May 7.

The companies are Marathon Oil, Berry Petroleum, Enterprise Products and enterprise transportation.

The State Oil and Gas Commission is investigating Marathon and Berry in a separate case involving releases of liquids from gas drilling waste pits.
