Small Earthquake Rumbles Montrose

Officials are confirming that what at least one Montrose resident felt on Wednesday morning was in fact an earthquake.

According to our friends at the Montrose Daily Press, a small tremor rippled through the area about 14 miles east of Montrose at 2:53am Wednesday.

According to a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Center in Golden, Colorado, the quake measured a low 2.4 on the Richter scale.

Officials say the Montrose area does not receive much seismic activity, but quakes big enough to be felt occur a few times a year.
