Springtime in Colorado: Rain and Snow

Spring took a break Thursday morning as rain and snow fell this first day of May.

While summer is still seven weeks away, a band of snow showers moved through the Grand Valley around 4 a.m. The warmth from the last couple of days will keep the snow from sticking to the roads or lawns. Temperatures will drop 30 degrees compared to Tuesday’s high of 81 degrees. KKCO 11 NEWS Weathercaster Lauren Whitney says we’ll see highs around 50 degrees Thursday.

A freeze warning takes effect Thursday night at midnight. It lasts until 8 a.m. Friday morning. There’s also a snow advisory for Meeker, Craig and parts of the Northwest corner of Colorado. A snow advisory is also in effect for the Northwest San Juan Mountains including Ouray and the base of Red Mountain Pass.

A heavy snow warning is in effect for the central mountains, including the Grand Mesa. Anywhere from 8 to16 inches of snow could fall from this storm.
