A Grand Valley visit by a world champion athlete had kids in Fruita jumping up and down -- literally.
Five time world champion jumper Molly Metz and members of her Denver based team spent Saturday at Fruita Middle School, holding a jump rope workshop.
The kids got to try their hand at double dutch, Chinese wheel, speed, and freestyle. The pros also got a chance to show off their skills.
Metz says she loves doing workshops like these, and hopes that they can generate enough excitement to start jump roping programs across the state.
"We want to let people know that it's not just a playground activity anymore, and that it's a sport," said Metz. "Our number one goal right now is the Olympics. We'd love to become an Olympic event, but to get there we need exposure and we need grassroots programs.
Metz is a member of the Pan American Rope Skipping Board and has been jumping rope for 25 years.
