A battle between two neighbors may be cooling down and it's all thanks to an eight foot wall.
The city approved a $40,000 block grant for Homeward Bound. It asked for the money to build a taller wall after 11-News reported neighbors concerns, the people living behind the shelter say its homeless clients were throwing garbage over the fence, making noise and getting to close for comfort. Homeward Bound says it wants to have good relations with its neighbors.
It was those neighbors that showed up at a mediated discussion between them and Homeward Bound Tuesday night. Business owners and residents brought up concerns over the mass of people who wait to get into the shelter at night, among many other concerns. Neighbors at the meeting called the shelter “enabling” and said that if it expands the problem will only get worse.
