Controlled Kannah Creek Watershed Burn a Success

Fire Crews dropped incendiary spheres, the size of ping pong balls, from a helicopter to start a controlled burn in the drainage of the Kannah Creek Basin Watershed. The burning is part of a partnership between the City of Grand Junction, the USDA Forest Service and the Colorado State Forest Service.

The Forest Service and the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit are supervising the burn.

Fire crews say the burn will help eliminate ground fuels that could possibly contribute to the pollution of the watershed should a wild fire occur in the area.

Crews waited for good weather conditions to perform the burn. The burn is part of the city's watershed restoration project.
