"There is no room in baseball for discrimination. It's our national pastime and a game for all." Those are the words of baseball legend Lou Gehrig, and words the Challenger Baseball League lives by.
The Challenger League is a division of little league that gives players with physical and mental disabilities the opportunity to play ball using the buddy system.
Tuesday night was media night. Members of local newspapers and TV stations, including 11 News, hung out with the kids and showed their stuff on the diamond.
11 News anchor Glen Mills, sports anchors Zach Kerker and Sam Farnsworth, weekend anchor Natalie Pallone, and all the 11 News reporters joined in on the fun.
The best part of the program is that everyone gets to make a new friend.
The Challenger League works closely with area high school baseball teams and the Mesa State Mavericks.
