The Montrose County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in a 17 month old murder investigation.

In November 2006, Montrose County Sheriff's deputies found the burned body of 50 year-old Steven Kublin along Landfill Road.

Montrose County Sheriff Rick Dunlap says his investigators, as well as the Montrose Police Department, Montrose District Attorney's Office, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation have been working on this case since Kublin's body was first discovered.

They say they've received all sorts of calls and tips that they've spent time tracking, but one that recently came in proved to the be the one that led to the arrest of a suspect.

At around 7:30 Monday morning, Montrose County Sheriff's deputies arrested 27-year-old Jeremy Alan Hodges at his home in Ridgeway. Authorities say he went without any problems and was booked into the Montrose County Jail on charges of first degree murder.

At this time, the investigation is still open so the Sheriff and District Attorney are releasing few details about Hodges' involvement in the case. They say a citizen informant, who knew Hodges, came forward about 6 weeks ago and gave them the valuable information that led to his arrest.

Officials would not comment on any type of relationship between Hodges and Kublin, but say that evidence in the case was taken from Hodges' home.

During a press conference Monday afternoon, District Attorney Myrl Serra, would not confirm or deny that Hodges was their only suspect in this case, saying they are still hoping to tie up some loose ends in the investigation.

Officials say it's taken a lot of hard work, but they're glad they've been able to get to this point.

"It's been a long seventeen months for our office," said Dunlap. "A lot of time, a lot of effort, and a lot of resources have gone into this investigation and I feel good about where we're at today."

"We're a long way from getting any type of resolution, but this is a step in the right direction," said Serra.

Sheriff Dunlap says he spoke to Kublin's brother on the phone this morning to tell him about the arrest. He says family members expressed they were very happy that someone had been taken into custody.

Hodges will make his first appearance in the Montrose County Courthouse Tuesday afternoon. His bond has not been set.
