The number of new single–family housing permits in Mesa County is down by 41% for April 2007–April 2008.
Meantime, the number of remodeling permits in Mesa County is up by 32% since the beginning of this year.
Many homeowners say with the housing market being what it is, they'd rather improve on what they have, than buy new.
Despite the dip in new single–family home numbers, a spokesperson with the Mesa County Building Inspection says he doesn’t expect the new home slump to last.
