Residents across the Grand Valley celebrated Memorial Day.

At a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, volunteers set up flags in the courtyard, one each for every three soldiers killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At Lois' Place in downtown Grand Junction, the owners hung plaques of fallen soldiers who are friends or family of customers and employees.

At JUCO, veterans were easy to spot watching the games in their gold-embroidered military hats. And at three o’clock, the crowd stood to observe a moment of silence.

Residents across the Grand Valley expressed their thanks to those who serve, and honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
