One local couple believes their neighborhood is being targeted by a serial arsonist.
For Dana and Nancy a fire in their garage was the last thing they expected, but it was what they awoke to early Sunday morning. Dana says, "We are significantly less than pleased with the fact that they are having arsons in our back alley it's just not a good thing at all."
But their garage fire is only the latest in a series of suspicious fires here in the downtown Grand Junction area which has some residents worried for their safety. On the night of their garage fire, four separate garage fires occurred over a two hour span.
Fire officials have not ruled any of the fires arson but have classified them suspicious. This has Dana unable to relax. He says, "[I] don't sleep as well at night anymore thanks to whoever did this." Nancy may be up for different reasons. She says, "I imagine I'll be up checking the alley in the middle of the night."
Unattached garage fires are nothing new to the area because over the past year over 10 suspicious structure fires have occurred in neighborhoods near the downtown area.
Fire officials say at this time there is no way to say that any of the fires are connected but say they are investigating the possibility.
