Alcohol May Have Role in Fatal Head On Accident Near Parachute

Colorado State Patrol says that alcohol may have played a role in a fatal head-on accident that closed I-70 near Parachute for more than 5 Hours.

71 year old Bruce H Edmondson of Aspen struck 28 year old Alexander R Taft head on while traveling eastbound on the westbound lanes of I-70 at approximately 1:15 am Thursday morning.

Both drivers were pronounced dead on the scene by the Garfield County Coroner and have not been identified. Trooper Gilbert Mares says that alcohol use of Edmonson's part may have played a role in the crash.

Traffic was diverted onto Highway 6 from Parachute to Debeque during the closure.
