It only took a Mesa County jury 30 minutes to convict a man who was representing himself on several sex assault charges.
Christopher Butler has been found guilty on 10 charges of sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, charges stemming from 1993. The three day trial ended quickly Wednesday morning after a thirty minute jury deliberation.
The prosecuting attorney says the charges were brought back up from the 1990's after Bulter attempted to contact the victim, now an adult.
A sentencing date has been set for August, when a judge will decide whether to charge Butler as a habitual criminal and/or a habitual sex offender against children. Those charges each carry a sentence of 48 years.
