Summer Heat Brings Increase in West Nile Activity

The Mesa County Health department is monitoring several bodies of water around the area to better control the spread of the West Nile Virus.

From Palisade to Fruita there are about 20 or 30 collection sites. Mosquitoes collected at the sites are tested for West Nile.

So far nothing has come back positive.

West Nile activity usually peaks as the heat continues to rise, in July or August.
